Dear students,
You may have read from the media reports that the number of cases ofInfluenza A (H1N1-2009) infections has increased sharply recently.Yesterday, it was reported in the newspapers that Republic Polytechnic hasto ask all first year students and some staff members to stay away for oneweek because of 9 confirmed cases of H1N1 infection. It is very important that all of us behave in a socially responsible manner and maintain a highlevel of personal hygiene to slow the spread of this illness.

When the new term begins on 29th June, you will be required to take a daily temperature reading for 7 days starting from Monday, 29th June to Sunday, 5th July. For subsequent weeks, a temperature taking exercise will beconducted every Monday.

Please take and note your temperature before you come to campus each morning for one week starting from 29th June. Give your temperature reading to your lecturer or class tutor. If you are unwell or have a temperature higher than 38 degrees, you should see a doctor and stay at home. If you are coming to campus on Saturday 4th July or Sunday 5th July, you will need to take your temperature before coming to campus. Please enter your temperature record in the STRES database. You are reminded to bring your thermometer to campus each day. You will be required to take your temperature before you are allowed to sit for your mid-semester test.

Send on behalf of Deputy Principal (Services):
Dear students,
MOE has instructed that we conduct another temperature taking exercise on Tuesday, 2 June 2009.
As mentioned in my previous email, all the temperature records will be entered on a class by class basis by your lecturer or class tutor.
Please take and note your temperature before you come to campus in the morning on Tuesday, 2 June. Give your temperature reading to your lecturer or class tutor. If you are unwell or have a temperature higher than 38
degrees, you should see a doctor and stay at home.
I have reproduced below the advice given by MOH for your information:
Advice from MOHSingaporeans are reminded to maintain high standards of personal hygiene. This means covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, and washing your hand frequently with soap and water, especially
after contact with respiratory secretions (e.g., after sneezing and coughing). We also need the cooperation of everyone to be socially responsible. This means staying home and avoiding crowded places (including
trains, buses, offices), putting on a surgical mask and seeing a doctor if you have flu symptoms. MOH advises those who travelled to affected areas to closely monitor their health and to immediately call 993 for an ambulance
once they develop symptoms.
Members of the public are advised to exercise caution over travel to affected areas. In the event that travel is unavoidable, the public is advised to take precautionary measures such as avoiding crowded areas and
maintaining high standards of personal hygiene at all times. However, if you are unwell with fever and cough but have no travel history to affected areas, please see a doctor and stay at home.
Once again, thank you for your cooperation.
